DAY 1 – Kirkenes

All aboard!

Your journey begins in the Arctic and the city of Kirkenes, just a few miles from the Russian border, but further east than both Saint Petersburg and Istanbul.

In the city there are many Russian influences; road signs in both Norwegian and Russian, a monthly Russian market and the Russian monument.

The Second World War
At the Varanger Museum, those interested in history can learn more about the city's trials during the Second World War. Kirkenes was bombed a total of 328 times in four years, making it the second most bombed location during the war after Malta.

If you want to get a deeper insight into this dark period, visit the Andersgrotta shelter from World War II, which holds up to 2,500 people underground.

Norway's northern border area
In the harbor of Vardø you will find the star-shaped fortress Vardøhus, built in 1737. It is the world's northernmost fortress and there are still military activities here today.

We sail along the coast to reach the small port of Båtsfjord in the evening and then continue to Berlevåg. You might be able to glimpse the Tanahorn in the west or see the Kjølne lighthouse flashing across the Barents Sea on top of a cliff.

DAY 2 – Mehamn – Tromsø

Unique arctic landscapes

We dock again in Honningsvåg, where we organize an early excursion with breakfast on the North Cape. The ship then heads towards Hammerfest, where you can visit the Unesco-listed Meridian Pillar. Here you can also go on a short mountain expedition and learn more about the area's polar hero and chef, Adolf Henrik Lindstrøm.

We continue south to Øksfjord and make a short stop in the old trading station Skjervøy.

Midnight adventure
We then dock in Tromsø in plenty of time to listen to a midnight concert in the Arctic Cathedral. In the summer, you can also go on a boat trip and explore Tromsø under the midnight sun. You can also look into Ølhallen and have a beer.

OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS (selection)

Lofoten - breathtaking nature

History and culture
In the morning we dock in Harstad, which is the starting point for one of our classic excursions – a taste of Vesterålen. Here you get to experience history, beautiful landscapes and cultural heritage and then board the ship again in Sortland.

Those who remain on board get to experience the passage through Risøyrenna, a shallow channel that was built for Hurtigruten in the early 1920s.

Lofoten and Trollfjord
Be prepared for some of the trip's most magnificent natural experiences as we sail through the Lofoten and Vesterålen island groups. Lofoten is known all over the world for its beautiful nature with steep mountains, wild nature and small picturesque fishing villages. For many, this is the absolute highlight of the trip.

After a short stop in the small village of Risøyhamn, we continue to Stokmarknes – the place where Hurtigruten was founded more than 125 years ago. Be sure to visit the Hurtigruten Museum when you're here.

As we continue south, it feels as if we are about to collide with a mountain wall, but there is no danger. The captain navigates familiarly through the narrow Raftsundet, which is surrounded by nearly 1,000 meter high mountain peaks.

We have now arrived at the enchanting Trollfjord. If the weather permits, we enter the fjord with the steep mountain walls that are so close that it feels like you can reach out and touch them. An unforgettable experience!

The next stop is Svolvær, where you can choose from several different excursions. Take a horse ride on the beach, join a scenic hike, go on a boat trip in the fjord or relax in one of the city's cafes, pubs or restaurants.

DAY 4 – Bodø – Rørvik

Romantic meeting with the Seven Sisters

Sorcery and hollow mountains
Crossing the Arctic Circle is an important event and we celebrate it out on deck with an Arctic tradition – a spoonful of cod liver oil.

Along the coast of Helgeland passes by the strange mountain Torghatten (258 meters above sea level), known for its characteristic hole through the middle. The hole is 160 m long, 35 m high and 20 m wide and was formed during the ice age. Join us on a hike up the mountain.

Another highlight is the mountain range De syv søstre. It is easy to understand how the seven beautiful mountain peaks inspired the old legend of how seven beautiful witch sisters were captured and turned to stone at sunrise.

From eiders to salmon
We make a short stop in the idyllic former trading station Nesna before continuing to Sandnessjøen. From here you can join an excursion to the Vega Islands, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List because of the sustainable lifestyle of the islanders for centuries, which is based on the now unique harvest of eider down.

In Brønnøysund you can visit the Norsk Havbrukssenter and get an informative tour and taste fresh salmon (April to October).

Even though we are now south of the Arctic Circle, there are still good chances to see the Northern Lights in winter. Even if you don't travel during the midnight sun period, you still get the feeling of constant daylight during late spring and early summer.

OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS (selection)

Unesco-listed Vega Islands
Join us on a boat trip to the Unesco-protected Vega Islands and learn more about the islands' unique business of harvesting eider down.

Gothic architecture and an underground lake

Trondheim
Today you have the chance to explore the wooden city of Trondheim, which has an exciting history. Visit the majestic Nidaros Cathedral, built over the burial place of Olof the Saint, a Viking king who ruled Norway from 1015 to 1028.

Spectacular scenery and life at sea
During our journey along the coast, you will notice how important fishing is to Norway's coastal communities.

Kristiansund is often referred to as Norway's rockfish capital, thanks to its long history as the country's export center for dried fish. Here you can join an excursion along the Atlanthavsvägen, one of Norway's national tourist routes. The eight kilometer long road stretches over eight bridges and is surrounded by fairytale landscapes and the open sea.

Another exciting excursion is the one to the Bergtatt marble mine where we take you on a boat trip into the mountains over an illuminated underground lake. A meal is then served inside the mine's "great hall". Those who remain on board in Kristiansund get to experience when the ship crosses the open sea towards Molde - the City of Roses. Beyond the fjord in the distance, you can see the many peaks of the Romsdal Alps - the so-called Molde Panorama.

OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

DAY 6 – Ålesund – Bergen

End port Bergen

Night stop
During the night, the ship stops in Ålesund, Torvik and Måløy while the journey comes to an end. Before we dock in Bergen, there are still some fascinating nature experiences to be had, including the picturesque Nordfjord below the Jostedalsbreen glacier. Here the fjord opens to the east and stretches 9 miles inland.

We are approaching Bergen
In the morning we dock in Florø, Norway's westernmost community.

A few nautical miles south of Florø, we arrive at the entrance to the beautiful Sognefjord and enjoy the view of the many islands that line up along the coastline. When we then dock in the Hanseatic city of Bergen, we take with us unique memories from a truly unique part of the world. We hope to see you on board again soon!
